WASHBURN FRUSTRATES PADRES
ANGELS 11 PADRES 3
Jarrod Washburn (4-0) was utterly hittable, allowing 8 hits across 7 innings, but the Padres couldn't string enough of them together to convert into runs.
Meanwhile, Joey Hamilton (5-9) was equally average, allowing 8 hits himself. He unfortunately also allowed 3 walks, and 1 home run in giving up 6 runs in 6 2/3 innings. The bullpen just got worse from there, allowing 5 more runs before the 7th was over.
The only Padre driving in runs today was Andy Sheets, going 2 for 5 with all 3 Padres' RBI.
News and Notes - Padre hitters were extremely impatient at the plate today, drawing zero walks, and only getting Washburn to a 3 ball count once....with the loss and a Brave victory, the two teams are once again tied for the best record in the National League.
