Mariners 5 Padres 3

Joey Hamilton (5-8) gave up a season high 10 hits, allowing 5 runs in 6 1/3 innings and the Padre offense was absent until a 3 run ninth.

Seattle starter Jaime Moyer (5-6) kept the Padres off-balance all day, spreading 5 hits around 8 innings until allowing 3 consecutive hits in the 9th, leading to the 3 Padre runs.

Ken Caminiti had the first blow, doubling home Tony Gwynn and Greg Vaughn. Closer Healthcliff Slocumb came in a gave up a run scoring single to Wally Joyner. Slocumb would calm down and set down the next 3 in order to end the game.




  
News and Notes -  Jim Leyritz showed surprising flexibility for Bruce Bochy, playing some shortstop late in the game. "He just wants to play, he doesn't care where" said Bochy.

William M. Averill, the “Father of Baseball in San Diego,” enclosed a 300-foot by 400-foot lot on the street car line between Milton (National Avenue) and Logan and 23rd and 24th streets to create Recreation Park — the first formal baseball park in San Diego


Game 60 1972 - Padres 4 Giants 1

Right-hander Steve Arlin allows only one hit in a complete game as the Padres defeat San Francisco 4–1 at San Diego Stadium. Arlin strikes out eight and walks three. The only hit is a second-inning triple by Garry Maddux. This is the third 1-hitter in franchise history.

In the first game of a doubleheader, Clay Kirby pitched a 3 hit, 13 strikeout, complete game shutout, marking the 50th shut out in franchise history.

Rollie Fingers blows his 5th save of the season, allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth, marking the 1,000th loss in franchise history.



Game 69 1986 - @Giants 18 Padres 1 

LaMarr Hoyt was shellacked for 9 runs in 3 1/3 innings in the 18-1 loss. The 18 runs allowed were a season high for 1986. 



Game 71 2000 - Padres 10 @Reds 7 (10 innings)

Second baseman Bret Boone ties a Padres record by homering in three straight at-bats for six RBIs and center Ruben Rivera hits the Padres fifth homer of the game, a three-run shot in the 10th, to give San Diego a 10–7 win in Cincinnati

Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner ties a franchise record when he has seven assists against the Dodgers at Petco Park. Huston Street blows the save.



Game 74 2016 - Padres 7 @Reds 4

For the 3rd time in 2016, this game marks a start of a season high 3 game win streak, a road sweep of the Reds.

Center fielder Steve Finley becomes the only Padre to have two, three-homer games in the same season in an 11–6 over the Giants in San Francisco.  Finley also hit 3 home runs in a game on May 19th against Cincinnati.

In the same game, Trevor Hoffman passes Rollie Fingers to become the Padres all-time saves leader with 109.
