PADRES RALLY AGAIN, EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 10 GAMES
PADRES 7 GIANTS 6
Down 4 runs at the start of the 7th inning, Greg Vaughn started the rally in style, with a long home run to deep left-center field to cut the lead to 6-3.
Aided by an error by Bill Mueller, Quilvio Veras scampered home on a weak grounder by Ken Caminiti. Then Vaughn would tie the game on a single swing, launching his 2nd home run of the night into deep left field.
In the top of the 9th, Chris Gomez would just miss taking the lead, with his drive to left field bouncing off the wall, allowing him to run all the way to 3rd. After an out is recorded, Ruben Rivera would hit a deep line drive, and Gomez would just beat the throw to take the lead.
With Trevor Hoffman unavailable for the 9th, Bruce Bochy kept Roberto Ramirez (1-0) in to get the mighty Barry Bonds out. The rookie delivered, inducing a grounder to Veras for out number one. His job done, Bochy called Dan Miceli out of the pen to get the last 2 outs to secure the win and earn his second save of the season.
News and Notes - Joey Hamilton hit his first career triple in the 5th, driving in the first 2 runs of the night.
