The third place Los Angeles Dodgers are coming to town for a quick 2 game series, then it's off to San Francisco for 4 games.

  
News and Notes -  On the off day, the Padres extended their NL West lead to 3.5 games, but the Astros won, drawing them 1.5 games within the #2 seed in the NL. The Padres trail the Braves by 3.

Ed Whitson allows only three hits and an unearned run in a complete game as the Padres defeat the Reds 5–1 at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. Whitson earned his first victory of the season, and had 2 RBI.


Game 59 1990 - Padres 3 @ Dodgers 1

Center fielder Joe Carter hits a two-run homer in the top of the 13th to give the Padres a 3–1 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles.


Game 66 2015 - A's 9 Padres 1

Dave Roberts only game as Padres manager as Bud Black is fired after 8 ½ seasons as the Padres manager. He was the 16th manager in Padres history with the second-longest tenure.

Sold Bobby Etheridge to the St. Louis Cardinals.
  • 3B Etheridge, acquired via trade from the San Francisco Giants on December 5, 1969, played for the AAA Salt Lake City Bees at the time of the transactions.
