This Date In Padre Baseball - June 16

THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

PADRES EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 8!

PADRES 10 DODGERS 6

Perhaps Kevin Brown (7-3) will start skipping the first few innings in future starts. Once again allowing runs early, this time on a solo HR in the first from Gary Shefield and another in the second by Raul Mondesi before settling down and waiting for the Padre bats to wake up.

He didn't need to wait long, as Tony Gwynn doubled home Brown and Quilvio Veras to even the score at 2 in the bottom of the third. The score would be tied at 3 until the Padre half of the 6th inning.

Ken Caminiti would hit a 2 run home run to break the tie, and Mark Sweeney would hit a sacrifice fly scoring Greg Vaughn to make it 6-3 Padres.

In the 7th, Andy Sheet would draw a bases loaded walk, and then Carlos Hernandez would double, clearing the bases to extend the lead to 10-3 Padres.

The Dodgers would put a scare into the Friar Faithful in the 9th, scoring 3 off Brian Boehringer before yielding to Trevor Hoffman. Hoffman would strikeout Jim Eisenreich for his 21st consecutive save.
