Kevin Brown (13-3) had his usual early inning hiccups, allowing 2 runs in the 1st and then 2 more in the 3rd, but locked it down after that, striking out 10 and keeping the Padres close enough for a Padre rally in the 6th for the victory.
Ken Caminiti and Greg Vaughn hit back to back home runs in the first to put the Padres up 3-0. After Brown gave back the runs, Carlos Hernandez hit a double in the 6th to score Wally Joyner for the go ahead run.
Trevor Hoffman allowed 2 hits and a walk in an adventurous 9th, but preserved the victory for save number 35.
