CAMINITI POWERS VICTORY

Switch-hitting third baseman Ken Caminiti ties a franchise record with three homers in a game, including homers from both sides of the plate, to drive in five runs in a 6–3 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Joey Hamilton (7-9) enjoyed the power supplied by Caminiti, and supplied some power of his own, hitting a home run leading off the third inning.

Trevor Hoffman would put 2 men on but not allow any to score to secure the victory and his 27th consecutive save.


News and Notes - Nate Colbert(1972) and Steve Finley (twice in 1997) share the franchise record for HR in a game with Caminiti.

Outfielder Ollie Brown is 4-for-4 with a home run and right-hander Clay Kirby allows one unearned run on three hits and five walks with 10 strikeouts in a complete game as the Padres defeat the Dodgers 4–1 at San Diego Stadium.

The Padres set a franchise record that stands until 2005 when they play a ninth straight errorless game, and 92 straight error-less innings.
