1998 SEASON

PADRES RALLY IN THE 7TH FOR VICTORY

PADRES 4 ROCKIES 2

Back to back home runs from Steve Finley and Carlos Hernandez in the 5th inning temporarily put the Padres up 2-0. 

Joey Hamilton (6-9) immediately surrendered 2 runs in the 6th to tie the game back up.

Ken Caminiti would double home Chris Gomez to break the tie in the 7th. Gomez then added an insurance run in the 8th, doubling home Wally Joyner. 

Trevor Hoffman would close out the game for his 25th consecutive save.



News and Notes -   The Padres were highly selective at the plate, setting a season high in walks, with 10.

Game 80 1973  - Padres 4 @Dodgers 1 

Left-hander Randy Jones allows an unearned run on four hits over nine innings in the Padres 4–1 win at Dodger Stadium. It is the first of a franchise-record 71 complete games for Jones.


Game 80 1975  - Padres 2 Reds 1

Randy Jones becomes the only Padre to throw two one-hitters in a season in a 2–1 win over Cincinnati at San Diego Stadium.This is the 6th 1-hitter  in franchise history, with an 8th inning double by Bill Plummer the only hit.


Game 84 1979  - Padres 3 Dodgers 2

For the second time in the 1979 season, the Padres start a 5 game win streak behind a complete game from Gaylord Perry.
     
Game 83 2001  - Padres 6 Rockies 5

The Padres tie a then National League record by hitting four sacrifice flies in a 6–5 win over Colorado at Qualcomm Stadium.


Game 80 2004 - Padres 5 Royals 4

Right-hander Adam Eaton’s no-hit bid is broken up by Dee Brown’s lead-off double off the left-field wall at Petco Park in the eighth. The Padres defeat Kansas City. Eaton allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts over seven innings

Game 82 1994  - Padres 7 Mets 0 

Andy Benes takes a no-hitter into the eighth and allows one hit and a walk with 13 strikeouts in a complete-game as the Padres defeat the Mets 7–0 at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. The only hit off Benes is a double by Rico Brogna leading off the eighth. This is the 17th 1-hitter in franchise history.

  • P Mauser would appear in 68 games over 3 seasons, posting a 2-6 record with a 3.90 ERA, including 2 saves. Granted free agency on October 16, 1995.

Signed Rymer Liriano as an amateur free agent.
  • OF Liriano made his MLB debut as a Padre on August 11, 2014. Appeared in 38 games during the 2014 season, hitting .220 with 1 HR and 6 RBI. Traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on January 28, 2016.
2012

Released Jorge Padilla.
  • OF Padilla signed as a free agent on June 1, 2012 and appeared in 17 games at AAA Tucson.
