Padres off for the 3 day All-Star break, except for the 5 making their way to Coors Field for what promises to be a high scoring game.

Tony Gwynn was voted in by the fans, for his 14th All-Star game selection.
Greg Vaughn was selected for the 3rd time.
Kevin Brown was selected for the 4th time.
Andy Ashby was selected for his 1st All Star Game.
Trevor Hoffman was selected for his 1st All Star Game.




News and Notes -  Padres will embark on a 10 game road trip to start the second half of the season.

Representing the San Diego Padres:
C - Terry Kennedy - his 2nd all star appearance
P - Dave Dravecky - his 1st all star appearance

In a blow out victory for the American League, 13-3, Dave Dravecky would make the Friar Faithful proud, pitching 2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2.

Terry Kennedy was held in reserve, and did not make an appearance.



Game 82 1991  - @Giants 4 Padres 1

For the second time in 1991, the Padres start a season high 5 game losing streak.


Game 88 2011  - @Giants 6 Padres 5 (14 innings)

 Nate Schierholtz home run of Pat Neshak leading off the bottom of the 14th inning, end the longest game of the 2011 Padre season in a loss for the Friars.

Game 85 1969  -  Padres 1 Astros 0

Left-hander Dick Kelley throws the first one-hitter in Padres history in the second game of a doubleheader at San Diego Stadium. The only hit is a second-inning single by Houston’s Denis Menke. Kelley allows the one hit with five walks and four strikeouts in a complete-game 1–0 shutout win.



Despite the 1 hitter, the Padres needed a 2-out single from Ed Spiezo to score John Sipin for the walk off victory.

Traded Scott Coolbaugh to the Cincinnati Reds. Received Lenny Wentz (minors).
  • 3B Coolbaugh appeared in 60 games during the 1991 season, hitting .217 with 2 HR and 15 RBI. Acquired from the Texas Rangers via trade on December 12, 1990.
  • IF Wentz would appear at A level Charleston in 1992. Released after the 1992 season.
2010

Released Eric Munson.
  • IF/C Munson appeared in 47 games at AAA Portland after signing as a free agent on February 25, 2010.
2016

Selected Jake Smith off waivers from the San Francisco Giants.
  • P Smith would make his MLB debut as a Padre on September 7, 2016. He would go on to appear in 4 games during the 2016 season, posting a 1-0 record with a 4.50 ERA. Released on December 18, 2017.
