Andy Ashby (14-6) was off his game, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings, after being given a 3 run lead after 4 innings to take the loss.
Tony Gwynn hit a 2 run home run in the 3rd inning and Wally Joyner hit a solo shot in the 4th for all the Padres runs on the night in Shea Stadium.

- C Ross would go on to appear in 11 games in 2005, hitting .353 (6 for 19) Traded to the Cincinnati Reds on March 21, 2006.
