THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL
1998 SEASON
BROWN CRUISES, VAUGHN CRUSHES
PADRES 8 A's 4
Kevin Brown (10-3) had no early inning struggles this afternoon, and the Padres put 8 runs on the board before Brown allowed a run in the 7th inning.
With Brown avoiding his typical early struggles, the Padres need a jolt of offense to give Brown a lead, and that jolt was a big blast from Greg Vaughn, connecting on his 28th home run of the season in the 4th inning, scoring Tony Gwynn and Ken Caminiti to stake Brown to a 3-0 lead.
Caminiti, Gwynn, and Jim Leyritz would each have RBI singles, and Quilvio Veras would single home 2 to bring the score to 8-0 before Brown gave up a run scoring single to Jason Giambi.
Jack Voigt and Giambi would homer off the bullpen to bring the final to 8-4. Donne Wall would get out of the 9th by striking out former Padre fan favorite, Bip Roberts.
News and Notes - Rookie Roberto Ramirez, after a promising start, has been hit hard recently, getting only 1 out today before surrendering the towering shot to Jason Giambi in the 9th.
