Miceli Meltdown Leads to Dodger Victory
Dodgers 6 Padres 2
After Kevin Brown ran out of gas after 6 innings, striking out 8, the Dodgers took advantage in the 8th. Dan Miceli (7-4) surrendered 3 hits and a walk and watched them all score in a 4 run 8th.
The Padre offense was again sleepwalking through the game, only mustering 6 hits, with 3 of them, plus an error coming in the 4th, resulting in both Padre runs.
News and Notes - Jim Leyritz was in the on deck circle to pinch hit in the 9th, taking practice swings, when he suddenly stopped and went into the dugout and back to the clubhouse. Training staff said he felt a sharp pain in his left elbow, but initial reports are just a strain.

The Padres establish a still-standing, but tied, record for four homers in an inning. Ivan Murrell, Ed Spiezio, Dave Campbell and Cito Gaston homer in the bottom of the ninth in a 9–7 loss to the Dodgers.
Game 85 1982 - @Mets 9 Padres 7
Outfielder Gene Richards is 5-for-5 with the first of his two inside-the-park homers of the season in a 9–7 loss to the Mets in New York.
1984 ALL STAR GAME - NATIONAL 3 AMERICAN 1
The NL West leading Padres sent 3 to the All-Star game, including starters Tony Gwynn and Steve Garvey. Closer Rich Gossage was also selected to the team.
Garvey scored the first run of the game in the first inning after singling off Dave Steib. Gwynn went 1 for 3, with a stolen base. Rich Gossage pitched the 9th, striking out 2 to earn the save.
1990 ALL STAR GAME - AMERICAN 2 NATIONAL 0
American League All-Stars held the National League to 2 hits, none by the Padre representatives. Benito Santiago was selected for his 4th time, but was unable to play due to injury. Tony Gwynn drew a walk in his only at bat. Roberto Alomar earned his first All Star nod, going 0 for 1. Padre manager Jack McKeon was also in Chicago, asked to coach alongside Giants manager Roger Craig.
2001 ALL STAR GAME - AMERICAN 4 NATIONAL 1
Tony Gwynn is invited to his 15th and last All Star game, but doesn't play due to his knee injury. 3B Phil Nevin made his first, and only All Star appearance, going 0 for 1. 1B Ryan Klesko also made his first and only All Star appearance, hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in the only run for the National League.

The Padres set a season high for runs, scoring 14 in the desert.
2007 ALL STAR GAME - AMERICAN 5 NATIONAL 4
Right-hander Jake Peavy becomes the third Padres’ pitcher to start an All-Star Game and gives up just one hit in a scoreless inning. But Padres right-hander Chris Young allows two runs in an inning and suffers the loss in the American League’s 5–4 win in San Francisco. Trevor Hoffman was also selected to the game, pitching 1 inning, allowing 1 hit.

The lone Padre All-Star, closer Huston Street did not make an appearance in the game.

1976
Traded Gene Locklear to the New York Yankees. Received a player to be named later.
- LF Locklear appeared in 249 games over 4 seasons, hitting .278 with 9 HR and 63 RBI. Acquired from Cincinnati via a trade on June 12, 1973.
1992
Pat Clements selected by the Baltimore Orioles off waivers.
- P Clements appeared in 71 games (1 start) over 4 seasons, posting a 7-2 record with a 3.60 ERA. Originally acquired via a trade with the New York Yankees in 1988. Signed as a free agent in 1991.
