Tony Gwynn goes 5-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs in an 8–0 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Gwynn also moves past Dave Winfield to become the Padres’ all-time leader in RBIs. Right-hander Andy Benes allows five hits and no walks with eight strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.

When Adam Rosales homers in the 3rd inning, the Padres tie a National League record when they hit a homer in a 25th straight game. They become one of five Major League teams ever to homer in 25 straight games. The Padres hit a total of 42 homers during the run.
