Playing in Coors field, you almost felt sorry for the All-Star Pitches, but only 3 balls left the yard all game. 28 others found open space in that big outfield.

Breaking the record for the most runs (22) and most hits (31) in an All-Star game, MVP honors went to former Padre, Roberto Alomar, representing the Baltimore Orioles, went 3 for 4, with 2 RS and 1 RBI with a HR and SB.

As for our Padre All-Stars:

Gwynn went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI
Vaughn went 1 for 1 with 2 RBI

Ashby tossed 1 inning, allowing 1 H, 1 R on a HR to Alex Rodriguez
Brown went 2/3 IP striking out Jim Thome
Hoffman pitched 1 inning, striking out Scott Brosius but allowing the HR to Roberto Alomar.

Padres collect 15 hits and tie a season high (June 5) for most runs scored.


1980  -  ALL STAR BREAK

Jack McKeon replaces Bob Fontaine to become the Padres fourth general manager. Trader Jack would earn his nickname after the season, and begin building the 1984 NL champion squad.

The Padres gave up 18 hits including 5 home runs in setting a season high in runs allowed. Wil Myers hit 3 home runs, as he seems to be the only Padre who enjoys playing in the house of horrors that is Chase Field.

Right-handed starter Andy Benes and reliever Greg Harris combine on a one-hitter and Archi Cianfrocco hits a two-run homer in a 2–0 over the Mets at Shea Stadium. Benes allows the hit, an infield single by Jeff Kent in the second inning, over eight innings during which he walks five and strikes out eight. Harris struck out one in a perfect ninth.

This is the 16th one-hitter in franchise history.
