In a battle of first place teams, Houston gained the victory thanks to brilliant pitching from former Cy Young runner-up Pete Schourek (6-6), who looked like the 18 game winner from 1995. Allowing only 5 hits in 7 innings, with Ruben Rivera's solo home run the only blemish.
Padre starter, Sterling Hitchcock (4-4) fell a tad short of matching up, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings to take the tough luck loss.

A sacrifice fly by Nate Colbert in the bottom of the ninth ends the longest scoreless innings streak in Padres history at 37 2/3 innings. Ollie Brown followed with a two-run homer, but the lose to the Pirates 4–3 at San Diego Stadium.
1973 ALL STAR GAME - NATIONAL 7 AMERICAN 1
1B Nate Colbert was the lone Padre All Star, going 0 for 1, popping up against Sparky Lyle in the 8th inning.

The 2018 Padres, in last place since April 15th, bury themselves for good by losing a season high 7 games in a row, starting tonight in NYC.
