The Padres did not get the start to the second half that they hoped. Mark Langston (3-2) was knocked around early, allowing 4 runs in the first, and then 2 more in the 4th before yielding to newly recalled Scott Sanders, who was rocked for 4 runs. It was 10-0 after 4, and the Padres never come close to a rally.




News and Notes - Scott Sanders made his season debut after coming over from the Tigers in a trade on May 6. It was not great, 1 2/3 IP, 4 H, 4 ER.

The Cubs are held to five hits in each game as the Padres sweep a doubleheader at San Diego Stadium by 1–0 and 7–2 scores. First baseman Nate Colbert is 3-for-4 with a triple and a homer for four RBIs in the second game.

The San Diego Padres had 2 starters for the National League, Benito Santiago at Catcher (his 3rd AS game) and CF Tony Gwynn (his 7th)

Santiago went 0 for 3, and Gwynn went 2 for 4 scoring the first run of the game in the first.

Tony Gwynn earned the fan vote for his 12th All star appearance, but he was injured and couldn't play. 3B Ken Caminiti was a reserve, going 1 for 2, becoming the first Padre to homer in an All-Star Game.

2002 All Star Game -  The infamous tie 7-7

The lone representative for the Padres was closer Trevor Hoffman, making his 4th All Star appearance. Pitching in the 6th inning, allowing a ground rule double to Paul Konerko and striking out Jorge Posada.



Game 88 2005  - @Rockies 1 Padres 0

After 11 seasons and 847 games, the first 1–0 game is played at Coors Field in Denver with the Rockies defeating the Padres.

The lone Padre representative, Kirby Yates, earning his first All Star game invitation, did not appear in the game.

Juan Uribe hits a two-out double in the ninth off reliever Luke Gregerson to break up a no-hit bid by five Padres pitchers. Starter Aaron Harang worked the first six innings. Josh Spence retired one hitter in the seventh. Chad Qualls gets the final two outs in the seventh. Mike Adams worked a hitless eighth and Gregerson got the first two hitters in the eighth to equal the longest no-hitter bid in Padres history. The Dodgers win 1–0 at Dodger Stadium when Uribe scores on Dioner Navarro’s following single off Gregerson.

Traded Ed Spiezio to the Chicago White Sox. Received a player to be named later and cash. 
  • 3B Spiezio was an original 1969 Padre, being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in December 1968. Over 4 seasons he appeared in 348 games, hitting .246 with 32 HR and 125 RBI.
