Carlos Reyes (2-2) allowed a single, then walked the next 2 batters in the 7th before Bruce Bochy called on Brian Boehringer to squash the Astros rally. After striking out Tim Bogar, Boehringer coughed up a bases loaded walk to make it 3-2 Padres. A seeing eye single by Tony Eusbio scored two, to give the Astros the lead.

The Padres would not mount a serious effort at a comeback over the last 3 innings, going down meekly at the Q.

The Padres lose 16–13 to Seattle after leading 12–2. The Padres score 26 runs on 39 hits in a two-game series at Petco Park, marking the first time they had scored 10 or more runs in back-to-back games at Petco Park. Center fielder Jon Jay goes 5-for-6 and becomes the fourth Padre to ever have four or more hits in back-to-back games. It also was the second time in 3 days the Padres allowed a season high 16 runs to the Mariners, first in Seattle, ad now at Petco.

Right-hander Juan Eichelberger allows only one hit, a second-inning single by Scot Thompson, in a 3–1 win over the Cubs in Chicago. Eichelberger allows an unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts plus the hit over nine innings. This is the 8th one hitter in franchise history.
