THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

PADRES WIN AGAIN - STREAK AT 11

PADRES 9 GIANTS 5

The Padres sprinted out to a 3 run lead, but this time Andy Ashby (10-4) was human, and allowed the Giants to tie it in the 4th.

In the 6th, the Padres used a couple of walks, followed by a Carlos Hernandez single and a Chris Gomez double to score 3 runs and take the lead for good.

The ball was flying out of 3Com Park, with Steve Finley, Greg Vaughn, and Ken Caminiti knocking home runs for the Padres, and Charlie Hayes getting one for the hometown Giants.

News and Notes - The 11th straight win ties the 1982 Padres for longest streak in franchise history.

Notable games of June 19

PADRES FRANCHISE RECORD ON THIS DATE = 24-24 .500 the first day in June that the Padres don't have a losing record!

Game 66 1973 -  Astros 7 Padres 3
Future Hall of Famer Dave Winfield makes his Major League debut with the Padres without ever playing a game in the minor leagues. Hitting in the seventh spot, the University of Minnesota product goes 1-for-4 and scores a run in the Padres’ 7–3 loss to the Astros at San Diego Stadium.

Game 71 1974 - Padres 1 @Cubs 0

Right-hander Dan Spillner throws a complete-game one-hitter in a 1–0 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The only hit is a third-inning single by Rick Monday. Spillner walks six Cubs and strikes out three. This is the 4th 1-hitter in franchise history, still looking for their first no-hitter at game 881 in Padre's history.

For the 3rd (and final time in 1986) the Padres start a 4 game win streak.

Game 70 2001 - Padres 4 Giants 3 (15 innings)

The Padres tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, scoring 3 runs of closer Robb Nen. An error in the 15th inning allows Phil Nevin to score and end the longest Padre game of 2001.

Seven Padres pitchers set a since-tied franchise record with 20 strikeouts in an extra-inning game in a 4–3, 15-inning win over the Giants at Qualcomm Stadium.

Game 67 2004 - Padres 3 Blue Jays 2

My first game at Petco Park is a victory for my Padres!

GAME OF THE DATE

Game 75 2018 - A's 4 Padres 2 (10 innings)

The Padres were one out away from winning, and sending my friend Brian (pictured in the A's jersey) home unhappy. BUT - Brad Hand blew it, then Adam Cimber coughed up 2 in the 10th for a loss.

Just one more bell ring and D'OH!
