This Date In Padre Baseball - June 13

THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

PADRES DOUBLE UP GIANTS

PADRES 4 GIANTS 2

The Padre winning streak is now at 5 games, after a 4-2 win at the Q over the Giants.

Starter Joey Hamilton (5-7) pitched 7 innings of 4 hit ball, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) before handing if off to the pen. Roberto Ramirez, fresh off his 4 out debut yesterday, set down 2 more Giants including Barry Bonds, then Dan Miceli struck out Charlie Hayes to end the 8th. Trevor Hoffman would set down the Giants in order for his 19th consecutive save of the season.

A slightly smaller, but somehow more vocal crowd of 54,390 got to cheer early, with Wally Joyner doubling home 2 in the first. After scratching back for two runs to tie the game, the Giant bats fell silent, and Carlos Hernandez knocked in 2 runs on a single in the bottom of the 3rd for what turned out to be the winning runs.

News and Notes - Tony Gwynn sat out his 4th straight game (he did pinch hit in one) with the balky knee. He insists that a stint on the DL is not needed, so the team is taking it day-to-day.
