This Date In Padre Baseball - June 25

THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

LANGSTON SHUTS DOWN FORMER TEAM

PADRES 6 MARINERS 0

Mark Langston (2-1) pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings, and Donne Wall carried the ball the rest of the way, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his first save of the year.

The Padres got off to a quick start, on back to back doubles from Steve Finley and Tony Gwynn to score the first run. Gwynn would come around to score on a single from Greg Vaughn, to make the score 2-0 Padres.

After Finley's second double of the game, Ken Caminiti would double him home to extend the lead to 3-0 in the third.

In the 8th inning, Quilvio Veras would hit the Padres' 6th double of the night, knocking in 2 runs to make the final 6-0.

News and Notes -  Despite the 6 runs, the offense still left 13 runners on base, something that manager Bruce Bochy says the team needs to start working on converting more RISP chances.

PADRES FRANCHISE RECORD ON THIS DATE = 26-24 .520

1973  -

San Diego City Attorney John Witt files initial suit seeking unspecified damages over club’s 30-year lease at San Diego Stadium from new ownership if club is moved. Washington, D.C., grocery magnate Joseph Danzansky later backs out of purchase of the Padres.

Game 73 2010 - Padres 3 @Marlins 0

Clayton Richard (5-4) tosses 6 scoreless innings, and the bullpen chain of Gregerson-Adams-Bell closes out the 400th shut out in franchise history.

Game 76 2017 - Tigers 7 Padres 5

Mikie Mahtook would single off Brandon Maurer in the 9th, scoring 2 runs and the Padres would go meekly in the 9th for a Tiger win. Must to my dismay, as I was in attendance with my son. We did get to go down to the field after to play catch. That was awesome.

GAME OF THE DATE

Game 79 2014 - @Giants 4 Padres 0

Tim Lincecum became the first pitcher to throw TWO no-hitters against the Padres, walking 1 in a Wednesday afternoon cakewalk. The "freak" needed only 113 pitches to get through the 28 Padre hitters.

This was the 9th no-hitter thrown against the Padres, and Giant's pitchers had the last 3 (with Jonathan Sanchez sandwiched between Lincecum's 2 no-nos)
