This Date In Padre Baseball - September 5

                 THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

Padres 4 Rockies 2

Kevin Brown (18-5) pitched effectively over 7 innings, allowing only 2 runs, but was a bit more wild than usual, walking 5 and uncorking a wild pitch.

Down 2-0 through 5, the Padres offense sent 8 men to the plate on their way to 4 runs. First, the struggling Steve Finley connected on a long home run to right, scoring Greg Vaughn. 4 batters later, and with 2 outs, Kevin Brown doubled home Mark Sweeney and Chris Gomez for a 4-2 lead.

The Padre bullpen held up, and despite a typical chaotic Coors 9th inning, Trevor Hoffman worked around 2 walks and a hit to earn his 46th save of the year.
