This Date In Padre Baseball - September 18

       THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

Rockies 4 Padres 1

The Padres again muster little offense, scoring only one run to extend their losing streak to a season high 4 games, at the worst time, falling 3 games back of the Astros for the #2 seed with just 7 games left to play.

Again, a Padre starter pitched well enough to win, this time Andy Ashby (16-9) allowed 3 runs in 6 2/3 innings, but the offense was non-existent with only one extra base hit, a double by Wally Joyner in the 9th.

News and Notes - The timely big hits that have sparked the team to the NL West title is mysteriously absent at the moment. Let's hope it returns for the likely playoff match-up with Houston.
