Kevin Brown (18-7) had just one poor inning, a 4 run 7th, and again the Padre offense sputtered to only 2 runs.

Sitting on a one run lead thanks to a solo home run by Quilvio Veras in the 7th, Brown surrendered 5 of his 9 hits, including a 2 run home run by Mark Grace, to cough up the lead.

Wally Joyner doubled in Greg Vaughn in the 9th to give some hope. but Rod Beck came in and shut down the Padre rally for his 47th save of the season.

News and Notes - Both the Braves and Astros win to pull further ahead of the Padres in the race for home field advantage.
