This Date In Padre Baseball - September 16

     THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

Cubs 6 Padres 3

The Padre offense once again is flat, and the bullpen leaked 3 runs in the later innings to send the Friar Faithful home unhappy for the second consecutive night.

The Cubs push for the playoffs continues, as the maintain their 1/2 game lead over the Mets for the Wildcard.

Carlos Hernandez hit his 9th home run of the year in the bottom of the 7th to briefly tie the game at 2, but Dan Miceli again was sub-par, coughing up 2 in just 1/3 of an inning.

Sammy Sosa ties Mark McGwire by hitting his record-setting 63rd home run

News and Notes - The offensive slump is concerning this late in the season, and home field certainly seems to be slipping away.
