Game 162 1975 - Giants 5 Padres 3

The Padres end the 1975 season with a record of 71-91, finishing in 4th place, 37 games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the NL West. The 71 wins set a franchise record, smashing the previous high of 63 wins in 1970.
 
Game 159 1979 - Padres 2 @Giants 0

Right-hander Eric Rasmussen pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout as the Padres defeated the Giants 2–0 in San Francisco. Rasmussen allowed three walks with one strikeout with the lone hit coming in the second. Right fielder Dave Winfield homered. This is the 7th 1-hitter in Padre history.

After 4 hours and 14 innings, a torrential downpour caused the game to be called a tie, to be made up the next day as a doubleheader.

The Padres win their longest game of the 1985 season.



Game 158 1988 - Padres 2 Dodgers 1 (16 innings) 

Catcher Mark Parent hit a two-run, two-out, pinch-hit, walk-off homer in the bottom of the 16th gave the Padres a 2–1 win over the Dodgers at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. Right-handed starter Andy Hawkins allowed no runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 10 shutout innings. Mark Davis, Lance McCullers and Dave Leiper followed. This contest marked the longest game of the Padres' 1988 season and was also the 300th extra inning game in franchise history.

Tony Gwynn hits a two-out, two-run single off reliever Mark Guthrie in the top of the eighth to snap a 2–2 tie and lead the Padres to a 4–2 win at Dodger Stadium. The win clinches the Padres’ first trip to the playoffs in 12 years. Gwynn calls it his “biggest hit.

Game 162 1997 - Padres 5 @Giants 3 (11 innings)

First baseman Derrek Lee hit a three-run homer in the top of the 11th to give the Padres a 5–3 win over the Giants in San Francisco.

Tony Gwynn equals Honus Wagner's record by winning his eighth National League batting title when he finishes the season with a .372 batting average. The Padres outfielder becomes the first player to win four consecutive NL batting crowns since Rogers Hornsby accomplished the feat with the Cardinals, winning six straight titles between 1920 and 1925.

The defending NL West champions finish the year in last place at 76-86, 14 games behind the Giants.

The Padres defeat San Francisco 9–1 at Petco Park to clinch their fourth National League West title and their first as occupants of Petco Park.

The Padres finish the 2008 campaign in last place in the NL West with a record of 63-99, 21 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I attend with my family as the Colorado Rockies defeat the Padres 10–8 in the Padres’ final game at Qualcomm Stadium. Padres’ second baseman Mark Loretta’s solo shot in the eighth inning is the last homer at Qualcomm Stadium.

  • OF/1B Kivlehan, acquired from the Seattle Mariners via waivers on August 5th, made his MLB debut on August 20th and would appear in a total of 5 games during the 2016 season, hitting .250 with 1 HR and 2 RBI.
