This Date In Padres Baseball - April 27

THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON
2 GAME LOSING STREAK

CUBS 3 PADRES 1

For the first time this season, the Padres drop consecutive games, losing to the Cubs 3-1 behind Kevin Tapani (4-1) making a loser of Joey Hamilton (2-1)

Hamilton pitched well enough to win, tossing 7 innings, allowing only 3 runs, but put himself in a whole early. A 2 run shot by Sammy Sosa was all the Cubs would need.

The Padres' bats were relatively quiet again, until a triple by Steve Finley in the 5th that scored Quilvio Veras to make the score 3-1. Rod Beck would come in to close the door on the Friars in the 9th.

News and Notes - Wally Joyner sat again, still claiming he could pinch hit if needed, but was notably absent in the 9th.
