PADRES WIN!
PADRES 6 DIAMONDBACKS 4
After a sweep of Cincinnati, the Padres kept rolling, this time against their new division rival, the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-4.
Possibly underestimating the new team, and facing their old ace, Andy Benes, who hit a solo HR in the top of the second off Padre ace Kevin Brown, the Padres quickly fell behind 4-0.
Ken Caminiti would slam his 4th home run of the season to start the second, and bring some life to the crowd. A Wally Joyner double in the 4th, would drive in Caminiti for the Padres second run of the night.
At this point both aces performed as such and both offenses went dark. Down 4-2 in the 9th and facing Felix Rodriguez, Greg Vaughn would single, then move to second on a ground out. Chris Gomez would strike out, bringing up Dan Micili's (1-0) spot. Mark Sweeney would be sent up to pinch hit. A Rodriguez wild pitch sent Vaughn to third, before walking Sweeney.
James Mouton would pinch run for Sweeney and promptly steal second. Quilvio Veras battled back from an 0-2 count to draw a walk, bringing up Steve Finley....
