This Date In Padre Baseball - August 28

         THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

Padres 12 Expos 8

The Padres extend their winning streak to 6 games with a huge 4th inning that saw the Padres come all the way back from 8-1 to score 9 runs and take the lead 10-8.

Andy Ashby got shelled, again tormented by Vladimir Guerrero who connected for his 34th home run of the year in the 3rd inning. Ashby gave up a season high 8 runs in a season low 3 2/3 innings.

But in the 4th, the Padre bats roared to life. Sending 14 batters to the plate on their way to scoring 9 runs. The inning started with a bang with Greg Vaughn and Mark Sweeney blasting back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning. Every Padre starter got on base at least once in the 4th.

Carlos Hernandez added 2 more runs in the 6th to add some insurance runs.

News and Notes - 9 runs in the 4th was the highest total of the 1998 season
