This Date In Padre Baseball - August 18

THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

Padres 7 Marlins 5

Andy Ashby is spotted a 4 run lead in the first, and left with a 5-3 lead after 6 innings. But the normally reliable bullpen had a rare day off, with Donne Wall allowing 3 hits and 2 run in 1/3 of an inning and Dan Miceli allowing the tying run to score on a wild pitch.

The Padres were saved, remarkably by 2 passed balls. The first in the 8th allowed the Padres to take the lead, and another in the 9th for an insurance run.

Trevor Hoffman earned his 40th save of the year.

News and Notes - Greg Vaughn connected for his 40th home run of the season in the 4th inning.
