Once again, the NFL Chargers have priority of the Q, and the Padres will get a rare Saturday night off and play a double header on Sunday against the Brewers.

Tied at 3 after 3 innings, the two teams traded zeroes for the next 13 innings before John Davis allowed 2 runs in the top of the 17th for the longest game of the year.

The Reds walk it off, sending the Padres on the longest losing streak of the season at 5 games.

Closer Trevor Hoffman picks up his 300th career save as the Padres defeat the Mets 2–1 at Qualcomm Stadium. Starter Kevin Jarvis allows a run on two hits over the first eight innings as he and Hoffman combine on a two-hitter.

First baseman Willie Montanez goes 5-for-9 and scores the Padres only run as they lose a 3–1, 20-inning decision to Houston at San Diego Stadium. In terms of time, the six-hour and 17-minute marathon is still the longest game in Padres’ history.

  •  IF Sardinas would go on to appear in 63 games over 2 seasons, hitting .248 with 2 HR and 14 RBI. Selected off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles on May 24, 2017.
2018

Released Phil Hughes.
  •  P Hughes, acquired from the Minnesota Twins via a trade on May 27, 2018, appeared in 16 games during the 2018 season, posting no record and a 6.10 ERA.
