This Date In Padres Baseball - May 23

THIS DATE IN PADRES BASEBALL

1998 SEASON
ASTROS RALLY LATE TO WIN

ASTROS 4 PADRES 3

Mark Langston returned to the mound following an extended time on the disabled list, but only threw 72 pitches in 3 2/3 innings before being pulled, as a precaution, for feeling some tightness in the elbow. 4 consecutive singles then a walk just made that decision even easier for Bruce Bochy. He brought in Carlos Reyes, who induced Mike Hampton to ground out to end the inning, preserving a 3-2 lead for the Padres.

The Padres runs both involved players returning from the disabled list. First, Ken Caminiti doubled then scored on a Ruben Rivera single in the second inning. Then, assisted by two errors in the inning, Langston drove in a run in the fourth.

Going into the 8th, the Padres clinging to a 1 run lead, Bochy gave the ball to Dan Miceli (4-2) who gave up a 2 run shot to Sean Berry for his second loss and second blown save of the season.

News and Notes -  After the game, Langston said he was feeling fine, and should be on the mound when his turn in the rotation comes up next.
