In a back and forth battle with the Central Leading Astros, the Padres finally broke through, scoring 2 in the 7th to tie, then putting 3 up in the 9th to take the victory.

The Padres slammed 4 home runs on the night, but no 2 were bigger than Greg Vaughn's 2-run shot in the 7th to tie the game at 6, then another 2 run shot from Vaughn in the 9th to put the game out of reach at 9-6.

Trevor Hoffman would make sure of that,  after hitting the first batter, set down the next 3 to earn his 14th straight save.

News and Notes -  Ken Caminiti didn't join the team as scheduled today, weather delayed his flight to Houston.
