PADRES SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER
GAME 1 - PADRES 3 METS 1
Padres rally with 2 in the 8th to win Game 1 of the doubleheader. Andy Ashby pitched well, tossing 7 innings allowing only 1 run, continuing his hot streak. Padres were helped by a walk and an error in the 8th, both scoring off a single by Eddie Williams and a sacrifice fly from Chris Gomez. Trevor Hoffman worked around 2 hits to secure the victory and his 11th save.
GAME 2 - PADRES 6 METS 2
Sterling Hitchcock had a solid start, giving up 2 in the first, then shutting the Mets down for the next 5 innings, but left the game trailing 2-1. Dan Miceli (3-1) picked up the win when, once again, the Padres rally late, tying it in the 6th on Greg Vaughn's 11th home run, then rallied for 4 more in the 7th. Tony Gwynn supplied the big blow, with his 6th home run of the season a 3-run blast to blow the game open.

GAME OF THE DATE
Game 34 1988 - Padres 3 Expos 2
Only notable for one reason - I was in attendance! Look at the price of admission! Cheaper than a latte now!
Ed Whitson went seven innings for his 3rd win of the year. Lance McCullers tossed 2 scoreless innings for his 3rd save.
The only thing I really remember about this game is the booing of Larry Bowa. The fans didn't like him or the fact that the team was already 9 games out of first this early in the season. Eventually Trader Jack fired him and put himself in as manager. At the time that seemed really odd, but it worked out for the 1988 Padres, who went 67-48 under McKeon to finish with a winning record that year at 83-78.
But tonight, the hero was rookie Roberto Alomar, who singled home Shawn Abner in the bottom of the 7th with the go ahead run.
