Signed Rich Gossage as a free agent.
  • P Gossage would go on to appear in 197 games over 4 seasons, posting a 25-20 record with a 2.99 ERA including 83 saves. Selected to the 1984 & 1985 All-Star games. Traded to the Chicago Cubs in February 1988.

Signed David Wells as a free agent.
  • P Wells would make 31 starts during the 2004 season. Granted free agency in November 2004. Would return via trade with the Boston Red Sox in August 2006 and be released in August 2007. Overall, made 58 starts over 3 seasons, posting a 18-18 record with a 4.33 ERA.

  • P Cashner would appear in 130 games (97 starts) over 5 seasons, posting a 28-43 record with a 3.67 ERA including 3 complete game shutouts. Traded to the Miami Marlins in July 2016.
