Drafted John Scott in the 1st round (2nd pick) of the 1970 amateur draft (January).

• OF Scott would go on to make his MLB debut as a Padre on September 7, 1974. Appeared in 39 games over 2 seasons, hitting .042. Purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays in October 1976.

Drafted Doug Ault in the 2nd round of the 1970 amateur draft (January Secondary), but did not sign the player.

• 1B/LF Ault would sign as a free agent with the Texas Rangers in April 1973.

1984

Drafted Randy Byers in the 1st round (8th pick) of the 1984 amateur draft (January Secondary).

• LF Byers would go on to make his MLB debut as a Padre on September 7, 1987. Appeared in 21 games over 2 seasons, hitting .269 with 1 RBI. Traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in April 1989.

Drafted Rodney McCray in the 9th round of the 1984 amateur draft (January).

• OF McCray would only appear at the minor league levels, rising to A level Reno in 1987. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 1987 minor league draft.

1997

Signed Phil Plantier as a free agent.

• LF Plantier returns to San Diego for just 10 games in 1997 before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in June. Overall, appeared in 298 games over 4 seasons, hitting .235 with 57 HR and 160 RBI.

Signed Jeremy Powell as a free agent.

• P Powell would go on to appear only at AAA Portland during the 2001 season. Purchased by the Kintetsu Buffaloes (Japan Pacific) in June.

Signed Chris Hammond as a free agent.

• P Hammond would go on to appear in 55 games during the 2005 season, posting a 5-1 record with a 3.84 ERA. Granted free agency in October 2005.

2014

Signed Travis Buck as a free agent.

• OF Buck re-signs with the Padres, but yet again appears only at AAA. Granted free agency in November 2014. 

2020

Signed Craig Stammen as a free agent.

• P Stammen re-signs with the Padres and continues to add to his Padre career. Has appeared in 233 games over 4 seasons, posting a 22-15 record with a 3.29 ERA including 4 saves. Currently on the 40 man roster.
