1986

Purchased Guillermo Velasquez from Monterrey (Mexican).

• 1B/LF Velasquez would make his MLB debut as a Padre on September 14, 1992. Appeared in 94 games over 2 seasons, hitting .223 with 4 HR and 25 RBI. Released after the 1993 season.

1991

Darrell Sherman drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1991 rule 5 draft.

• LF Sherman, selected by the Padres in the 6th round of the 1989 draft, appeared only at the minor league levels. Returned in March 1992 and would go on to make his MLB debut as a Padre on April 8, 1993. Appeared in 37 games during the 1993 season, hitting .222 with 2 RBI. Selected off waivers by the Colorado Rockies in November 1993.

Drafted Dwayne Hosey from the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1991 minor league draft.

• CF Hosey would go on to appear only at the minor league levels, rising to AAA Las Vegas in 1993. Granted free agency in October 1993.

Drafted Brian Johnson from the New York Yankees in the 1991 minor league draft.

• C Johnson would make his MLB debut as a Padre on April 5, 1994. Appeared in 186 games over 3 seasons, hitting .260 with 14 HR and 80 RBI. Traded to the Detroit Tigers in December 1996.

The San Diego Padres sent Craig Pueschner to the Cincinnati Reds to complete the trade of December 8th.

• OF Pueschner, selected by the Padres in the 32nd round of the 1988 draft, appeared only at the minor league levels, rising to A level Waterloo in 1991.
