Signed Kevin Ward as a free agent.

• LF Ward would not appear in another game for the Padres and be released in April 1993. Previously, made his MLB debut as a Padre on May 10, 1991. Appeared in 125 games over 2 seasons, hitting .288 with 5 HR and 20 RBI.

1999

Traded Wally Joyner, Reggie Sanders and Quilvio Veras to the Atlanta Braves. Received Bret Boone, Ryan Klesko and Jason Shiell.
