• P Niekro, acquired from the Chicago Cubs via trade in April 1969, appeared in 37 games (31 starts) during the 1969 season, posting a 8-17 record with a 3.70 ERA including 8 complete games and 3 shut outs.

Traded Steve Huntz to the San Francisco Giants. Received William Frost (minors) and Don Mason.

• P Frost would not appear at any level of the Padre organization.
• 2B/3B Mason would go on to appear in 130 games over 3 seasons, hitting .207 with 2 HR and 11 RBI.

Bob Davis drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1978 rule 5 draft.

• C Davis, selected by the Padres in the 6th round of the 1970 draft, made his MLB debut as a Padre on April 7, 1973. Appeared in 166 games over 5 seasons, hitting .205 with 1 HR and 24 RBI.

1989

Drafted Mike Dunne from the Seattle Mariners in the 1989 rule 5 draft.

• P Dunne would go on to appear in 10 games (6 starts) during the 1990 season, posting a 0-3 record with a 5.65 ERA. Released in March 1991.

Dave Hollins drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1989 rule 5 draft.

• 3B/1B Hollins, selected by the Padres in the 6th round of the 1987 draft, would only appear at the minor league levels, rising to AA Wichita in 1989.

Shane Mack drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1989 rule 5 draft.

• OF Mack, selected by the Padres in the 1st round of the 1984 draft, made his MLB debut as a Padre on May 25, 1987. Appeared in 161 games over 2 seasons, hitting .241 with 4 HR and 37 RBI.

1995

Drafted Melvin Rosario from the Chicago White Sox in the 1995 minor league draft.

• C Rosario would only appear at A level Rancho Cucamonga before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles in April 1996.

Traded Khalil Greene to the St. Louis Cardinals. Received a player to be named later and Mark Worrell.

• SS Greene, selected by the Padres in the 1st round of the 2002 draft, made his MLB debut as a Padre on September 3, 2003. Appeared in 659 games over 6 seasons, hitting .248 with 84 HR and 328 RBI. Finished 2nd in Rookie Of The Year voting in 2004.

• C Sanchez would go on to appear in 101 games over 2 seasons, hitting .235 with 11 HR and 32 RBI. Granted free agency in November 2017.
