Released Curt Blefary.

• OF/1B/C Blefary, acquired from the Oakland A's via trade in May, appeared in 74 games during the 1972 season, hitting .196 with 3 HR and 9 RBI.

1995

Signed Willie Blair as a free agent.

• P Blair would go on to appear in 100 games (12 starts) over 2 seasons, posting a 9-11 record with a 4.46 ERA. Traded to the Detroit Tigers in December 1996.

1998

Signed Carlos Garcia as a free agent.

• IF Garcia would appear in 6 games during the 1999 season, hitting .182. Granted free agency in October 1999.

2001

Signed Alan Embree as a free agent.

• P Embree would appear in 36 games during the 2002 season, and be traded to the Boston Red Sox in June. Returned as a free agent for the 2006 season. Overall, appeared in 109 games over 2 seasons, posting a 7-7 record with a 2.56 ERA. 

2013

Signed Luis Urias as an amateur free agent.

• IF Urias would go on to make his MLB debut as a Padre on August 28, 2018. Traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in November 2019. Appeared in 83 games over 2 seasons, hitting .221 with 6 HR and 29 RBI. 

2017

Signed Tyson Ross as a free agent.

• P Ross returns to the Padres and makes 22 starts during the 2018 season before being selected off waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals in August. Overall appeared in 122 games (103 starts) over 5 seasons, posting a 32-44 record with a 3.40 ERA including 3 complete games and 1 shut out. Selected to the 2014 All-Star Game.
