THIS DATE IN PADRE BASEBALL

1998 SEASON

GAME 3 - PADRES 2 ASTROS 1

Kevin Brown took the hill again in Game 3, this time at home in front of 65,235 screaming Padres fans at Qualcomm Stadium. Brown didn't disappoint. He didn't strike out 16, but held the Astros to 1 run in 6 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits.

The Padre offense was equally stymied by Astro starter Mike Hampton, who also allowed only 1 run in 6 innings.

After the Astros tied it in the top of the 7th, the Padres got a jolt from new Padre postseason hero Jim Leyritz, hitting his 2nd home run of the series, driving one to deep left field off Scott Elarton.

Dan Miceli would allow a lead off single, but get an inning ending double play to get the bells warming up.

Trevor Hoffman would strike out the side and the Padres would take a 2-1 lead in the series with a chance to win it tomorrow.

Game 4 starters - HOU- Randy Johnson vs SD- Sterling Hitchcock.

MLB PLAYOFFS -
