NLCS Game 4 - Braves 8 Padres 3 (Padres lead series 3-1)

With a trip to the World Series one win away, the Padres sent Joey Hamilton to the mound to face Denny Neagle. Neither starter fared well, both allowing 7 hits, but Hamilton allowed 4 runs to Neagle's three.

The Padres got on the board first, with an RBI double by Tony Gwynn and an RBI single by Jim Leyritz. The 65,042 in attendance were ready to celebrate the 2nd National League Championship.

But the team of the 90's would not go quietly, scratching back a run in the 4th, and tying it up in the 6th.

The Padres immediately responded, with Leyritz connecting for his 4th home run of the postseason to put the Padres back up, 3-2.

That lead lasted 1 pitch, as Javy Lopez homered on the first pitch from Hamilton in the 7th. Andruw Jones would single, and Bruce Bochy had seen enough of Hamilton, and called for Randy Myers. Myers would get 2 outs, but then fall apart. A single by Ozzie Guillen would put the Braves ahead for good. Another single and then a walk to load the bases would force Bochy to make the walk to the mound a second time in the 7th. This time he called upon Dan Miceli to get Andres Galaragga out with the bases loaded, and keep the game close. He did not. The Big Cat would send the second pitch over the left field wall for a back breaking grand slam to extend the lead to the final score of 8-3.
