1983
Signed Bruce Bochy as a free agent.
- C Bochy would go on to appear in 209 games over 5 seasons, hitting .232 with 20 HR and 64 RBI. Granted free agency in November 1987. Would later become the manager of the Padres in 1995. Named NL Manager of the Year in 1996. Won the NL Pennant in 1998. Lifetime record of 951-975.
2000
Traded Geraldo Padua, Jim Sak and John Vander Wal to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Received Al Martin and cash.
- P Padua, acquired from the New York Yankees via trade in 1999, appeared only at the minor league levels during the 1999 season.
- P Sak, selected by the Padres in the 10th round of the 1995 draft, appeared only at the minor league levels.
- 1B/OF Vander Wal, signed as a free agent in 1998, appeared in 152 games over 2 seasons, hitting.269 with 6 HR and 41 RBI.
- LF Martin would go on to appear in 93 games during the 2000 season, hitting .306 with 11 HR and 27 RBI. Traded to the Seattle Mariners in July.
2005
Signed Andy Ashby as a free agent.
- P Ashby re-signs with the Padres, but spends the entire season at the minor league level rehabbing. Granted free agency in October. Overall, Ashby appeared in 187 games (185 starts) posting a 70-62 record with a 3.59 ERA including 18 complete games and 6 shut outs.
