Traded Omar Olivares to the St. Louis Cardinals. Received Alex Cole and Steve Peters.

• P Olivares, signed as an amateur free agent in 1986, appeared only at the minor league levels, rising to AA Wichita in 1989.
• CF Cole would go on to appear only at AAA Las Vegas during the 1990 season. Traded to the Cleveland Indians in July.
• P Peters would go on to appear only at AAA Las Vegas during the 1990 season. Released in October.

2000

Signed Chris Jones as a free agent.

• OF Jones returns to San Diego, but only appears at AAA Las Vegas during the 2000 season. Appeared in 92 games during the 1997 season, hitting .243 with 7 HR and 25 RBI. Released in April.
