1982

Released John Urrea.

• P Urrea, acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals via trade in December 1980, appeared in 38 games during the 1981 season, posting a 2-2 record with a 2.39 ERA including 2 saves.

1984

Released Juan Bonilla.

• 2B/3B Bonilla, acquired from the Cleveland Indians via trade in April 1981, made his MLB debut as a Padre on April 9, 1981. Appeared in 296 games over 3 seasons, hitting .262 with 5 HR and 78 RBI.

1991

Selected Jose Melendez off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

• P Melendez would go go to appear in 87 games (12 starts) over 2 seasons, posting a 14-12 record with a 3.10 ERA including 3 saves.

1992

Traded Ricky Bones, Matt Mieske and Jose Valentin to the Milwaukee Brewers. Received Geoff Kellogg and Gary Sheffield.

• P Bones, signed as an amateur free agent in May 1986, made his MLB debut as a Padre on August 11, 1991. Made 11 starts during the 1991 season, posting a 4-6 record with a 4.83 ERA.
• OF Mieske, selected by the Padres in the 17th round of the 1990 draft, appeared only at the minor league levels, rising to A level High Desert in 1991.
• IF Valentin, signed as an amateur free agent in October 1986, appeared only at the minor league levels, rising to AA Wichita in 1991.
• P Kellogg would go on to appear only at the minor league levels, reaching AA Wichita in 1993. Released in October 1993.
• 3B Sheffield would go on to appear in 214 games over 2 seasons, hitting .319 with 43 HR and 136 RBI. Selected to the 1993 and 1994 All-Star game. Finished 3rd in the 1993 MVP vote. Awarded Silver Slugger Award in 1993. Traded to the Florida Marlins in June 1993.
